Lyrica Version
The Lyrica version of Unico was originally published from November 1976 to March 1979 in Sanrio’s Lyrica Magazine. After which, they have republished the comic throughout the years and in several languages. Below is a list of publications for this specific comic and includes book and magazine releases. First Grader Version
After the Lyrica Magazine was discontinued, Sanrio returned the rights to all creators to allow them to publish elsewhere if they chose. Osamu Tezuka continued Unico, but in a new magazine and format. Instead of comics geared towards young girls, now they were for young children and published in First Grader Magazine (Shougaku Ichinensei). Unico was published in the magazine from April 1980 to January 1984. Like the original comic, they have also republished the First Grader version over the years.
Children’s Books
Several children’s books were made and feature different reading levels. These were not comics, but picture books with plenty of wonderful art and text. There are also beginning level books for ages 0 to 3 that Unico, his friends, and other Tezuka characters appear in.
