Hello Unico fans!

Spring is here, and I’ve been busy working on various areas of the site this month. There are always things to do!
One of the biggest areas of the site I’ll be focusing on in April is the Character section. You’ll notice I’ve added a few character profiles below, and while they’re not Unico-specific characters, they are part of Osamu Tezuka’s Star System cast, which make appearances in Unico and several of his other series. These characters are important because there are so many connections in Tezuka’s universe, and I’d like fans to learn more. The new Unico series by Samuel Sattin and Gurihiru is also using other Tezuka characters, so they’re being added as well. I actually have a few prepped for Unico: Lost, but I need to actually read the book before I do anything. Gotta make sure the characters are who I think they are.

Also, I shared this on Facebook and X/Twitter, but Tezuka in English has a temporary website right now and you can visit it here! I’ll keep you posted when it has finally found its forever home. For now, everything is there.
That’s all my updates I have to share, enjoy the site updates below!

– Updated Venus’s 1979-character image, which features her not looking so angry. You can see it on Venus’s character profile. Thought it was a unique shot of her not shown in the pilot.
– Added Phoenix to the First Grader and Scholastic character profiles. Will update missing image.
– Added Atom/Time Fairy to the First Grader and Anime character profiles. I even added a Robot Perry-kun photo in the “Physical Appearance” section because I think it’s neat to see what inspired Osamu Tezuka.
– Added Melmo to the First Grader profiles.
– Added Unico being featured as part of AnimeJapan 2026’s key visual to his character profile.
– Added the April 1981 Shounen Magazine placeholder to the Articles and Interviews section. It features the first film and introduces the characters and the story. I’m finishing up the translations and editing the images, so it should be up in April.
– Edited and updated the Unico: Black Cloud and White Feather page with updated information from an interview referring to how Osamu Tezuka and Sanrio were working on the story at the same time but doing their own adaptations. Therefore, the setting and characters appear different from the anime and manga. Also, fixed some grammatical errors.
– Added the Unico-related merchandise by Sanrio page to the Merchandise Museum. I’ve created this page leading to several other pages for those wanting to look at Sanrio merchandise from the 70s and 80s. I’ll continue to add pages.

– Added more synopses to the First Grader Version Chapters page and fixed grammatical errors throughout. All of 1980 to 1982 is now complete. I’ll see if I can finish 1983 and 1984 next month. It’s fun revisiting this comic as it’s in no way serious. Still wondering if this version will ever get a proper English translation. There would need to be a few pages in the back just to explain some jokes and Japanese idioms.
– While I created it a while ago, I just turned it back on. It’s the official My Unico Fans Instagram account! Yes, I have my geeky personal account you can follow, but if you don’t want all my other randomness and just want Unico, definitely follow the new account. My goal is to share Unico-related content, like sneak peeks of what I’m working on, news, and whatever else.

While I wasn’t able to add more to the site in terms of merchandise, I was curious if fans knew more about this item! I vaguely remember seeing photos of it back in the early 2000s, but that’s it. Probably from somewhere in the Unico community. It’s popped up on eBay a few times, so I’m curious to learn more. If you have any information about the shirt, like where it was sold, who made the art, etcetera, I’d appreciate it! If I put the information on the site, you’ll be credited! Thank you! I know it’s not an official Unico piece (the tag says Port and Company, so there’s a hint), but still a wonderful reminder of that late 90s / early 2000s fan merch I’d like to document.

※ A quick reminder for those visiting this site. I’m a fan of Osamu Tezuka’s work and focus on the Unico series. I enjoy researching and sharing information, but I won’t upload any full comics, movies, soundtracks, or similar content.
