First Appeared: Melmo appears in the 1970 manga Apollo’s Song (アポロの歌) and Marvelous Melmo (ふしぎなメルモ). Her first appearance in Unico was in the 1982 issue of the First Grader version of Unico in the Ragon’s Fireworks (ラゴンの花火) chapter.
Melmo (メルモ Merumo) is a 9-year-old girl who lost her mother in a car accident. Since her mother was worried about Melmo and her brothers, God granted her one wish and gave her a jar of magical candies that can transform Melmo. Melmo’s name is derived from the word “metamorphosis.” She’s another character from Osamu Tezuka’s Star System and appears in several other series.
Physical Appearance
In most renditions, Melmo has short black hair and brown eyes. In her child form, she mostly wears a skirt and a shirt, which shrinks when she transforms into an adult.
Personality
Melmo is a caring girl, learning to deal with the changes of being a young girl to an adult thanks to the candy. In the Unico manga, she appears to be a little younger and easily upset.
