May is over, kids are out of school for summer break, and I have a little more time to do as I please. Hooray!
Since I wasn’t able to add items to the Merchandise Museum in April, I did so this month. From clothing items to bags, I hope there’s something in there you’ll find interesting. I absolutely love the 80s Sanrio items, so I focused a little more on those. Sometimes I wish Sanrio and Tezuka Productions would do a Unico collab and bring back a few retro designs for fun. Wishful thinking, I know, but I can still dream, right?
Speaking of merchandise, there’s been a resurgence of older Unico items appearing online and people going nuts to buy them. Even if I’m not able to snag any, I love being able to see and document these items because they’re a part of Unico’s merchandise history. I want to say be careful out there, though. I see some sneaky stuff on sites like eBay sometimes and hate seeing people being taken advantage of. As a collector myself, I understand the urge to buy cool stuff, but be careful! Make sure you’re not breaking the bank when purchasing things, too!

Also! I’ve been receiving messages from fans asking if author Samuel Sattin or Gurihiru will attend San Diego Comic Con this year, and I have heard no updates as of right now, but that could always change. SDCC will run from July 24 to 27 this year, and is one of the ultimate events regarding comics, animation, art, and more. Scholastic unveiled the Unico: Awakening trailer last year at SDCC, so I’m keeping an eye out for any news!

– I’ve created a main Unico page for the Scholatic’s Graphix version of Unico that will direct you to each volume. Previously had everything on the Unico: Awakening page, but with more volumes coming out in the future, I wanted to give each volume its own page. This includes international releases as well. Unico: Awakening, Unico: Hunted, and Unico: Lost pages are up.
– Along with creating a new page for the Scholastic’s Graphix version of Unico, I updated the Menu to make it easier to find each volume. You’ll see the books under “Information > Publications > Scholastic’s Graphix Unico Series.”
– Added Kazuo Oga Exhibit book to the Other Unico Related Publications page. Although it only contains one page of Unico art and information, this page is not shared elsewhere. This book showcases Kazuo Oga’s amazing skill and impressive work.
– Added a page about the Unico comic “Catalante” by MIG to the Other Unico Related Publications. This comic was first published in the Tezucomi magazine in Japan in 2019 and then afterwards in various languages. The page will feature information about the comic, each language version, and more.
– Added Unico wird gejagt to the German Language page.
– Added additional links to the English Manga Release page. This is to help those looking for more information on the new Unico series by Samuel Sattin and Gurihiru.
– Updated links to the Unico (2024) page. Since I reorganized the volumes to their own pages, this needed to be updated too.
– Mr. B notified me about a Unico and West Wind appearance, which are now included on Unico’s and West Wind’s Character Profile page. An orange looking unicorn who looks suspiciously like Unico appeared in the background of an episode of Astro Boy (1981), and West Wind appears in the Kemono Friends 3 mobile game.
– Fixed various links around the site.
– Added Unico coloring book number 78 to the Coloring Book page. This recently sold in Japan for quite a bit of $$$.
– Added 1984 My Unico Barrettes to the Clothing Accessories page.
– Added 1984 My Unico Address Book to the Unico Diaries, Journals, Notebooks, and More page.
– Added two 80s My Unico bags to the Unico Bag page.
– Also added a 1984 My Unico Gamaguchi Wallet (coin purse) to the Unico Bag page.
– Added the blue version of the “Soap Bubbles” handkerchief to the Handkerchief page, and added original prices and edited the FEILER handkerchief section as it’s no longer available.
– Added 1981 Unico Pajamas to the new Sleepwear page.
