My Unico One-Touch Button Pachitto

My Unico Safety Pins 1981

They released these “one-touch button pachitto” around the time Unico was in theaters back in 1981. There were three different package colors and several designs on each safety pin. We have the blue and pink packages, but there was a yellow one available too.

Pachitto (or pachit as it’s sometimes spelled on products in Japan) are safety pins with a hidden needle that can be used for practical uses or decoration, like on a scarf or other item.

Unico Piggy Bank

Like ceramic piggy banks? Well, here’s a fun Unico one released by Sanrio around 1981! It’s hand-painted with a glossy finish featuring colors similar to the first film. As you can see from the photos, you can insert your money into the back of Unico’s head. The bottom opens up to allow you to retrieve your precious currency.

Originally priced around 980 Yen.

Unico Ornament

This cute little ceramic Unico was available in the early 80s. It shares a similar look and style as the piggybank (which you can see on this page), only much smaller. A thread attached to the top of Unico’s head allows you to hang him from various areas, or you can place him down on a shelf to decorate any room. He is just a little over 2 inches in height.

They sold this ornament for 350 Yen.
