The 1981 Unico clothing collection features plenty of Unico and Chao in its designs. They were available during the Unico film’s release in Japan. The images below are from an issue of Strawberry News, which advertised belts, slippers, shirts, and more. Check them out below and see what was available then!
My Unico Belts
Released in 1981, these adorable belts featured Unico and Chao across the length of the belt. Produced by Nishimura Textile (西村繊維), the belts came in a variety of colors, including blue, white, and pink.
They sold for around 580 yen back in 1981.
My Unico Shoes
These slippers were made by the company Marutomi Shokai (丸富商会) and were available in 1981 when the first theatrical film was in theaters. Both feature Chao and Unico surrounded by stars with the “My Unico” logo.
They sold for around 680 yen in 1981.
These sandals with back straps by Maruchu Sangyo (マルチウ産業) include Chao and Unico on the designs. The first two (far left) have clear tops while the others do not. Like the slippers up above, these were available in 1981 during the first film’s theatrical release. Maruchu Sangyo was a company that manufactured sandals and shoes in Japan.
These sold for around 1100 yen a pair in 1981.
Unico Shirts
These tank tops were available during the first film’s release in theaters in 1981. They included designs featuring Unico and Chao with the Unico logo.
Priced at 680 yen in 1981.
These raglan t-shirts were also available the same time the first movie was in theaters. They feature adorable designs with Unico and Chao.
Priced at 780 to 980 yen in 1981.
Along with the raglan shirts were the regular t-shirts. Once again, Chao and Unico designs on both styles.
Priced at 780 to 980 yen in 1981.
Unico Pajamas
The pajamas pictured above feature Unico and Chao designs on the front. Both have raglan-style long sleeves and matching pants. While I’ve only been able to find photos of these, there may have been more colors and designs available.
Each set sold for around 1,980 Yen.
