About Osamu Tezuka
Osamu Tezuka is the creator of Unico, but his work spans several decades. He was born on November 3, 1928, in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture, in Japan. Growing up, Tezuka’s parents exposed him to many creative outlets, including art, animation, comics, theater, and more. As a child, he enjoyed drawing and creating comics.
During WWII, Tezuka’s experience with war changed the way he viewed the world, making him realize the fragile preciousness of life. He vowed to become a physician to help others, but ultimately returned to his passion for making comics for the rest of his career.
Known as the “God of Manga,” Tezuka’s works have reached people of all ages and from around the world. Besides Unico, Tezuka is the creator of Astro Boy, Black Jack, Princess Knight, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion, and many more. We encourage you to learn more about Osamu Tezuka’s life, works, and message as it adds so much more depth to what he has created.

About Samuel Sattin
Samuel Sattin is the author of the reimagined Unico series, published in 2024. He’s a best-selling, Eisner-nominated writer, editor, and narrative designer with several years of experience. Sattin’s other works include Bezkamp, The Silent End, BUZZING, Side Quest, and many more. He’s also adapted Cartoon Saloon’s films (The Secret of the Kells, Song of the Sea, Wolfwalkers) to graphic novel form.
Sattin graduated with an MFA in comics from California College of the Arts and currently lives in California with his wife.

About Gurihiru
Gurihiru is the Eisner-award-winning artist duo responsible for the artwork that brings the reimagined Unico to life. Chifuyu Sasaki and Naoko Kawano have credits on works like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Marvel titles, Superman Crushes the Klan, and more.
The two live in Saitama City, Japan and mostly work on American comics but also create illustrations and character designs for Japanese companies.

Who Runs This Site?
Hello!
This site is run by me, Crystal (aka Xellis)! I’ve been a fan of Unico since the late 80s after my parents rented the first movie, The Fantastic Adventures of Unico, from the video store. I quickly fell in love and it wasn’t until I was much older that I started researching everything about the movies, manga, merchandise, etc. After many years, I’m still discovering so much!
I live in Colorado with my wonderful husband, two daughters, and two kitties. When I’m not working or taking care of the family, I enjoy writing, drawing, reading, watching anime, and much more. I also attended Pikes Peak Community College for Multimedia Graphic Design and enjoy all forms of creativity.
And no, I’m not paid to maintain this site. I’m a fan who simply wants to preserve as much data as I can and share it with others — especially those who do not speak Japanese and want to learn more.

私の名前はクリスタル（別名：ゼリス）です。このサイトを管理しています。80年代後半、両親がビデオ屋で最初の映画「ファンタスティック・アドベンチャーズ・オブ・ユニコ」を借りてきてから、私はユニコのファンです。すぐに恋に落ち、映画、漫画、グッズなど、あらゆることを調べ始めたのは、もっと大きくなってからでした。何年も経った今でも、たくさんの発見があります！
